Fatal Red Light Crashes in New York
Intersections are just a normal part of our everyday commutes. However, statistics show that these areas can be incredibly dangerous. Nearly 50 percent of serious injury crashes and 20 percent of traffic fatalities occur at intersections. Many of these accidents involve drivers who run red lights. In 2021, a total of 1,109 people were killed by red-light runners in the United States. Half of these were outside of the vehicle that ran the light. More than 127,000 people were hurt in these collisions that year. Traffic lights are in place to make the roads safer for everyone, but they do not work if drivers fail to obey them.
