Smithtown, NY - Officer Hurt in DUI Crash at Rte 25A & Oakside Rd

Smithtown, NY (March 24, 2024) – An officer was hurt after being hit by an alleged drunk driver in the Smithtown area early on Sunday, March 24. The accident was reported at the intersection of Route 25A and Oakside Road early that morning at around 12:30 a.m. Local reports revealed that a Fourth Precinct Police officer was in a parked police vehicle on the highway when the car was hit by a 2020 Nissan Rogue. 

The officer was reportedly waiting for a tow truck to assist at the scene of an unrelated accident. The officer was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of sustained injuries. The driver of the Nissan, 25-year-old Katelyn Lynch of Smithtown, was arrested for driving while intoxicated and was also hospitalized. No further information on the accident is currently available. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the collision is being managed by local law enforcement officials.
