Bronx, NY - Cyclist Struck by Car in Wakefield Neighborhood

Bronx, NY (August 7, 2024) – This afternoon, an incident was reported at the intersection of 661 Nereid Avenue and Richardson Avenue in the Wakefield neighborhood of the Bronx. The significant accident involved a cyclist and a car. An elderly man was seen sitting on the sidewalk, providing information to police officers. The cyclist, who had been struck by a white Nissan sedan, was found next to his blue bicycle on the wet pavement.

Despite not being able to stand, the injured man was making phone calls, although he exhibited some difficulty in his movements. FDNY personnel were on-site, attempting to communicate with him. The driver of the white Nissan sedan, which had two women inside, was stopped at the corner, presenting her documents to the authorities. The injured cyclist, who was conscious and able to explain the incident, was eventually placed on a stretcher. He had visible scrapes, bruises, and cuts on his hands and was walking with difficulty before being transported to the hospital.

The police took custody of the cyclist’s bicycle until it could be collected. The rainy weather and wet sidewalk likely contributed to the accident, emphasizing the need for caution when driving and cycling in such conditions. Further details on the incident and the condition of the involved parties will be provided as they become available. Motorists and cyclists are advised to exercise caution when traveling in the area.
