Bronx, NY – Police Officer and Driver Hurt in Bartow Ave Crash
Bronx, NY (September 28, 2024) – A police-involved crash in the Baychester neighborhood of the Bronx, located in Bronx County, left an NYPD officer and a 39-year-old man injured early on September 28. According to law enforcement reports, the 39-year-old man was driving along Co-op City Boulevard when his vehicle struck the driver’s side of a police cruiser traveling down Bartow Avenue.
Authorities responded to the scene of a collision between a police vehicle and a black 2023 Toyota SUV shortly after midnight at approximately 12:01 a.m.
The incident occurred in a residential part of Baychester, which is known for its close-knit community of long-term residents, including many elderly individuals. Local residents voiced concern following the crash, noting that the neighborhood’s high population of older adults makes incidents like these particularly unsettling.
Emergency medical services responded swiftly, transporting both the driver and the officer to nearby hospitals for treatment. The driver of the SUV was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi and remains in stable condition. The police officer, who sustained injuries to his left arm, hand, and head, was also transported to a hospital and is recovering in stable condition.
We hope all the injured victims make a timely recovery.
