Brooklyn, NY – Man Steals Tow Truck, Crashes into Multiple Cars, Injures Two

Brooklyn, NY (September 9, 2024) – A chaotic scene unfolded in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, on Friday morning after a man allegedly stole a tow truck with his own vehicle still attached, crashing into multiple cars along the way, according to the New York Police Department (NYPD). The incident, which took place around 10:40 a.m. on September 8, 2024, left two people with minor injuries and caused significant damage to both occupied and unoccupied vehicles on the street.

The confrontation began when a tow truck operator attempted to tow the suspect’s vehicle in front of 170 53rd Street. In a sudden turn of events, the suspect climbed into the tow truck and sped off despite his vehicle still being attached to the rig. As the suspect raced down the street, the car being towed violently swung around, striking several parked vehicles as well as occupied cars. The attached vehicle eventually detached from the tow truck near 53rd Street and Second Avenue, but not before its door slammed into numerous parked cars, causing significant damage.

Despite the chaos and damage left in his wake, the suspect did not stop. He continued driving the stolen tow truck until abandoning it near 55th Street and Fifth Avenue. The NYPD reported that both the tow truck operator and a 62-year-old man, who was in one of the occupied vehicles struck by the suspect, were one of the injured ones. Both individuals were treated at the scene, but further details about their conditions have not been released.

We hope the injured victims recover quickly.
