Calverton, NY – Deadly Collision at Long Island Expy & Edwards Ave
Calverton, NY (June 1, 2024) – On Friday, May 31, there were fatal injuries reported in a car crash in the Calverton area. The incident was reported at the intersection of Long Island Expressway and Edwards Avenue early that morning around 7:05 a.m. Local reports indicated that the driver of a 2023 Hyundai Elantra was attempting to make a left turn onto the expressway when he was hit by a southbound 2013 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck.
Emergency crews were rushed to the scene to provide the necessary aid. The driver of the Hyundai, 48-year-old Scott Mancuso of Ridge, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Chevy, 24-year-old Darnell Chandler of Calverton was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center for the treatment of sustained injuries. No further information on the deadly crash is currently available. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the incident is being handled by local law enforcement officials.
