New York Roads: Danger Zone for Motorcyclists

Chili, NY – Motorcycle Accident with Injury on Beahan RdMotorcycle accidents near New York airports are unfortunately a recurring issue. While there isn’t comprehensive data specific to airport vicinities, several factors contribute to the risks motorcyclists face in these areas. High traffic volume, including taxis, buses, and private cars, creates congestion and increases the likelihood of collisions. Complex road networks with multiple lanes and merging points pose challenges for both motorcyclists and drivers. Distracted driving due to GPS devices or phone calls further exacerbates the risks.

Additionally, speeding, motivated by the urgency of catching flights or returning home, intensifies the severity of accidents. While lane splitting is illegal in New York, some motorcyclists engage in this practice, further heightening the risk of collisions. Motorcyclists face significant risks on shared roadways, especially in New York, where drivers often fail to yield, leading to severe accidents. The New York State Department of Health (NYSDH) statistics reveal thousands of motorcycle-related ER visits and hospitalizations annually, with a tragic loss of life.
