Wyandanch, NY – Brentwood Teen Charged in Hit-and-Run Incident in Wyandanch

Wyandanch, NY (August 4, 2024) – A Brentwood teenager has been arrested following a hit-and-run incident in Wyandanch on Sunday, August 4 , that left a Central Islip woman, Meyli Henriquez, with severe leg injuries.

The incident occurred just before 1:30 a.m., at the intersection of Wellwood Avenue and Patton Avenue. According to Suffolk County police, a rear-end collision initially took place between a Toyota Camry and a Kia Optima. The individuals involved in the collision stepped out of their cars to inspect the damage.

As they did so, a 2010 Nissan Rogue traveling westbound on Patton Avenue struck the rear of the stopped Kia, forcing it into the Camry. The impact pinned Henriquez between the two vehicles at approximately 1:35 a.m. The occupants of the Nissan Rogue fled the scene on foot, police reported.

Henriquez was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital after tourniquets were applied to both of her legs. Two others involved in the incident were treated at a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. The 16-year-old suspect was later arrested at his home and charged with leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash involving serious injuries. Authorities say he was released on a desk appearance ticket and placed into the custody of his family. Local officials are currently investigating the incident.

We hope the injured victim recovers quickly from her injuries.
